 Day 5:  5th Position

The feet are closed, one foot in front of the other with the toes of each feet aligned with the heels of the other. Both arms are rounded and raised over the head (you should be able to see your hands without lifting your head).

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers
Ephesians 4:11

This is the what has been called the five fold ministry.  Not only is Jesus complete, the Lamb of God, our Risen Savior, and Almighty…He is an EQUIPPER.  He has given some to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers for the equipping (or perfecting) of the saints for the work of the ministry.

The gifts are not for you!  It is about equipping you so you can equip others, multiplying the laborers for the kingdom.  Whatever your spiritual gift area is, use it for HIS glory.  As you train & equip your physical body to master 5th position, reflect on how you can use your God-given gifts within the body of Christ.

A Minister’s Choreography Devotion: 4th Position

Day 4:  4th Position

The feet are placed the same as in third position with the front foot moved forward.  One arm is rounded, held above and slightly forward of the head, the other arm remains in second position.

In first position, we can meditate on His completeness.  In second position, we remember Him as the Lamb of God, while in 3rd position, we praise our Risen savior.  That brings us to fourth position

Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
Matthew 14:25

From this one verse, we can reflect on HIM as Almighty, what an awesome demonstration of HIS power!  He is not constrained by elements such as gravity.  Even the winds & the waves obey HIM.  Read the entire section

The fourth watch of the night was between 3am and 6am, I imagine the disciples were disoriented from the sleep and probably on edge to say the least due to the storm.  They did not recognize Jesus coming to them, but when He identified himself it was Peter who asked to be bid to come.

So Jesus bid Peter to come, and he stepped out of the boat.

>>> In fouth position we step forward

There are many lessons that can be gleaned from Peter’s experience that are beyond the scope of this devotion.  A main focus is that Peter DID walk on water while he was focused on Jesus.  As soon as he became distracted by the elements surrounding him and lost sight of who was in control of those elements he began to sink.

For whatever reason, 4th position is harder to grasp than the previous positions.  Students would lose focus when they step out causing their posture and position to shift.  As we step out into 4th position, remember to focus on your position and relationship with the Almighty!

Day 3:  3rd Position

One foot is in front of the other with the of the front foot touching the middle of the back foot. Both feet are turned out.  Whichever foot is in front, bring that corresponding arm to the front of your body, keeping it rounded.  Your other arm will remain at the side of your body (assuming you are moving from second position).

Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day (Luke 24:46)

The ressurection of Jesus was necessary because He spoke that it would happen.  His ressurection is a foundational truth of Christianity.  It is a pillar of validation of the Scriptures as well as the foundation of our faith.  Paul says:

"If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised.  And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless, and you are still under condemnation for your sins." (1 Corinthians 15:16-17)

He is Risen indeed!  There is no condemnation!  I am so thankful that He did not stay dead, but He rose with all power in His hands.  He fulfilled His promise and we can look towards the future with hope.  While perfecting your 3rd position, praise God you serve a risen savior!

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live" (John 11:25)

A Minister’s Choreography Devotion: 2nd Position

Day 2:  2nd Position

The feet are turned out completely and spread apart.  The arms are raised to each side (slightly rounded), the elbows should be lower than the shoulders.

then He said, "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." He takes away the first that He may establish the secondHebrews 10:9

While in 2nd position, think about the 2nd sacrifice, which was Jesus himself, a once-and-for-all permanent sacrifice. HE did what no Levitical priest and animal sacrifice could do.  That is why we call him the Lamb of God!

Jesus is our High Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.  It is no longer necessary for a human priest to make yearly sacrifices.

As you stretch your arms out in 2nd position, remember that the once and for all sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross supercedes all other offerings.  What glorious love He has for us that He would give His life!

Day 1:  1st Position

The feet are turned out completely. The heels touch each other and the feet face outward, trying to form a straight line.  The arms are curved with your hands and elbows slightly bent.  While a "basic" first position is typically one of the first positions taught to those desiring to learn ballet, and it seems easy enough, true first position takes strength, durability and years to master.  Those that want to be a professional ballerina need to achieve a 180 degree turnout, knees back to back and maintain a graceful appearance.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."
Revelation 22:13

While in 1st position, meditate on HIS completeness.  Jesus is our everything, our all in all, the author and finisher of our faith (Heb 12:2).  There is no one else who can make this claim but HIM!

Our hope and trust should only be put in HIM.  He is our redeemer, provider, deliverer and our savior.  Because He is the first and the last…what He has spoken either has happened or will happen!  His word will not return to him void.  Take comfort in the fact that He is with us always (Mt 28:20).

We have the victory!  Read the book ~ we win! As the bride of Christ you can dance for victory.

Dance Techniques in the Spirit part 2: Alignment

chloe ballerina2
Body alignment is necessary for ease of movement and coordination.  In its simplest form, alignment can be defined as arranging our body in such a way that our bones are stacked in a line.  A closer look at alignment reveals that it comes from a dynamic series of inter-relationships between various bones and joints.

Sometimes, proper alignment takes conscious effort – “drop your shoulders, knees over feet etc..”  But as you continue to practice proper alignment, you’ll realize that it becomes an unconscious part of your everyday life.

Dance Ministers, just as bodily alignment is necessary for ease of movement…so is spiritual alignment!  Ask yourself —“Am I aligned with the will of the Lord?”. If not, this will make it extremely difficult to move.  As you do the work of the Lord, be assured that he wants to bless you and use you — but it is not enough to do the WORK of the Lord…it has to be the WILL of the Lord.  Your lifestyle has to line up with that of a minister at all times so that the Lord can use you!

Alignment involves being in the right position, but it is also based upon your relationship.  How else can you be aligned (or know if you are properly aligned) if you do not have a relationship with Christ.  This is essential!  Your relationship with God is crucial to proper alignment.  Unfortunately, what often happens is instead of attempting to align with Christ with a FULL HEART, many desire to find out how “little” they can align with Christ if that alignment is contrary with the ways of the world.  Poor alignment doesn’t flow and can cause unnecessary discomfort.

So how do we obtain proper alignment (the will of God)?  Let’s look at the Word:

Galatians 5:16  “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh”

Proverbs 3:5-6  “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not to thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”

Psalms 37:23  “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”

Dancing can be defined as moving rhythmically using prescribed steps.  As you dance with God – make sure you are properly aligned!
