Paneh Weekly Roundup #6: Ethics Edition

Every Thursday, I will post a link round-up of articles I’ve found while researching the Internet.  While all may not be directly related to dance ministry or worship arts, I hope it will be of benefit to the dance ministers, mime ministers and worship artists that frequent this site.

This has been a busy week here as we have launched a series of Dance Ministry Ethics discussionsThe discussions have been very insightful, be sure to check them out!

Science defines ethics as “a set of moral principles, the study of morality.” Therefore, Christian ethics would be the principles derived from the Christian faith by which we act. While God’s Word may not cover every situation we face throughout our lives, its principles give us the standards by which we must conduct ourselves in those situations where there are no explicit instructions. Here are some articles posted around the Internet this week, sprinked with the facts and quotes about ethics:

Minister Jocelyn Richard will be hosting a Worship Dance Bible Study  - you can register for it here.  Classes begin November 2nd

We have committed the Golden Rule to memory; let us now commit it to life.
- Edwin Markham

Mentoring Dancers was posted on the 4Dancers blog.  The defining moment between teacher and mentor in the first paragraph is something those in leadership can glean from.

Christian ethics is well summarized by Colossians 3:1-6: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”

Minister Rekesha Pittman gave such a thorough response to Dance Ministry Ethics Day #2: Ministry Contracts, that it merited becoming it’s own blog post!  Check out Sign on the Dotted Line on Company Keepers: Dance Ministry Talk

"’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’" Mark 12:30-31

Last week I purchased a new cell phone from Amazon.  Technology is constantly changing and that is definitely evident by the cell phone industry.  I purchased my first cell phone in 1999 and while it is no "Zack Morris Phone", it definitely lacked the portability and functionality of today’s phones.  Just for fun…here is my own cell phone evolution below the links.

If you happen to be in the market for a new phone, I recommend checking out the Amazon Wireless Store as you may receive a better deal than buying direct!

There were some great dance ministry related articles posted around the Internet this week.  Check out a few of my favorites:

Teaching Tip: Mirror, Mirrora quick tip for dance instructors from the 4Dancers blog.

Idol Eyes I love Minister Rekesha’s creative ability with words.  "Idol Eyes" is a warning for those in ministry that are idolizing someone and the subject of such attention.

Keep it Moving! In this devotion, Reverend Stephanie Butler of Spirit of Praise, Sacred Arts International reminds us to stay focused on Kingdom building using Nehemiah as an example.

Worship Dance in Korea  Olive Creative Dance Ministry posted several videos of Worship Dance from Korea such as the one below.  The choreography is beautiful, even if all I understand is "Hallelujah"!

Earlier today, I posted the Carnival of Praise Dance #3 "Personal Finance Edition".  Just like a real carnival, a blog carnival puts all the "fun stuff" in one place.  There are articles from a variety of authors on a variety of topics.  The carnival takes place every month so check back often or submit your own article!  Once your done with the weekly round-up, be sure to check out the carnival!

Praise Dancing  – When you Falter on Stage offers advice to minimize the mistakes made when ministering before people.  The article brings balance with practical and spiritual advice and reminds us that it is ultimately about pleasing God and delivering a message.

Dancing for JoyWhen people think of troops in Iraq, there first thought of what they are doing is probably not praise dance.  Soldiers from the 13th Sustainment Command CAMP TAJI, Iraq formed the Anointed Praise Dance Team to minister during worship services while deployed.

Tuesday (Oct 6th) was my first day as an instructor at the Anointed Feet Christian Dance Academy of the Arts.  I have the pleasure of working with the 7-11 age group from Illinois.  I’ve been a member of the academy for a few years and this is very close to the 6-12 age group of JOYED UP children’s dance ministry which I’ve been serving for the last 5 years.  So tell me….why was I nervous?

I was in a familiar setting with familiar faces, but in an unfamiliar position.  I wrote about such an elevation in Raising the Standard.  Teachers have a great level of responsibility and spiritually are held to a higher standard.  Working with youth magnifies the level of responsibility because they are so impressionable.

Kudos to all the dance instructors who work tirelessly imparting their gifts and talents into others!

My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. – James 3:1

Help!  My Child Doesn’t Listen to the Dance Teacher! posted on Dance Advantage discusses concerns that parents may have when sending their children to dance class.  Is it a developmental phase or something else?  Also includes tips for parents if they have a child that does not listen in class.

Why YOU need an Email Service Provider
.  I posted this article on Professional Presence Designs to discuss the need for Email Service Providers.  Too many dance ministers have developed a bad habit of sending out mass mailings from personal email accounts.  If you are using the Blind Copy (BCC) field, then at least you are protecting the privacy of your recipients.  However, your personal email account was not built to handle frequent mass mailings.  There are technical implications outlined in the article that can be hindering the receipt of your message.  Also, you may be inadvertently violating ICANN Anti-spam policies or your email company’s terms of use policy.

Beauty in Billows – This isn’t really an article, but a picture of how beautiful billows can be when introduced in choreography

Creative Arts Gathering In Waterloo, IA October 8-11
is reported on KWWL.  This International Creative Arts Conference is hosted by one of my fellow dance ministry friends Ellaysa Newton.   Great job getting your event picked up by the local media!

I recently invited the girls from JOYED UP! Dance Ministry over for a sleepover.  This generated a lot of buzz on Facebook and one friend requested an article on the importance of fellowship in ministry (full article soon to come).  I’m also preparing for a trip to my home to visit my mom.  I was recently at the 1-Day Entreleadership seminar sponsored by Dave Ramsey.  He listed 7 areas that need attention to achieve balance.  They are Spiritual, Financial, Career, Personal Development, Physical, Family.  I’m looking forward to spending time with family and friends.

Your challenge…should you choose to accept it….is call or connect with a family member or friend that you haven’t talked to in a while.

Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Exodus 20:12

10 Day Give Project: Christian Personal Finance authored by Bob is sponsoring the 10 Day Give Project and it starts TODAY!  The concept is simple, commit to giving something to someone for the first 10 days of October.  You can sign-up for free on his site, though technically you don’t have to sign up to participate….but why not join the community.  Oh, and your gifts don’t have to be monetary.  You can give your time, lend your talents etc.  It is not a contest to see who can give the most, rather an attitude adjustment to take the focus off of ourselves and help someone else.  Some ideas: take someone out to lunch, donate to the goodwill, give some well deserving parents the night off with free babysitting, pay someone’s utility bill etc.

Dance Ministry Myths Part 2 - What’s better that Dance Ministry Myths Part 1Dance Ministry Myths part 2 of course!  Minister Rekesha Pittman continues to expose fallacies circulating among worship artists such as praise dancing is an activity for youth, every church must have a dance ministry and more.

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:7

Divine Appointment Christian Dance LLC celebrates with open house  Divine Appointment Christian Dance LLC is a Christian based dance school that teaches the importance of dance and how to use dance in worship and to glorify God.  They are located in Tucson, AZ.  Congratulations to husband and wife team, LaShandria and Covito Redman!

Dance Pulse: Time Urgent vs Sustained This article is intriguing.  It starts off talking about the difference between a 30 & 40 minutes of instruction, which at first may seem fickle, but then delves deeply into the quality of time and even how dance is measured in time.  "The mover’s attitude toward time is expressed naturally in movement."

How Do I Become a True Worshipper by Roxi Arthur lists practical, scriptural steps to becoming a true worshipper.  She is also starting a 30 days of praise challenge….check it out!

Today is a GREAT day!  I made the final payment on one of my high interest credit accounts and it officially has a Zero BalanceWhy I’m I sharing this?  Because it is a liberating feeling.  I followed the steps I wrote about in D.A.N.C.E out of Debt and that is one less monthly bill that I will have to deal with.

the borrower is servant to the lender
- Proverbs 22:7

Dance Ministry Myths - I must admit, this made me want to laugh, cry and holler.  Minister Rekesha debunks several idealogies that are running rampant in dance ministry circles.  Her measure of truth is the infallable Word of God

The Dance of the Church, Praise and Worship Arts - A podcast interview with Dr. Debi Sharkey of "Live it first Ministries"  discussing the incorporation of psalmsists, muscians, and dancers in worship

Debt Testimonials – Personal Responsibility Beats a Bailout Any Day! - This is an inspiring story of a family who aggressively paid off over $100K in debt in five years!  Can you imagine the liberty they must have felt? Thanks DebtFreeAdventure!

Ballet — Its Origins and History - OK Dance Ministers….dance is an artistic form of expression that has extensive history.  If you classify yourself as a praise, worship, liturgical, or interpretive dancer it is highly likely some of the moves you incorporate in your choreography extends from ballet.  Gain insight through this summary provided by Dance Advantage.
