@James: That’s a good word study! Excellence is continuous improvment, striving, and moving in a direction. It is not a destination, but a process. In other words, I beleive one that posseses a spirit of Excellence never says…”well, I’ve reached ‘excellence’, I can stop now”. But rather realizes that it is a continuous journey as we desire to be more like HIM.

Lakita, these are some good points. Gone are the days when we can do a half baked job and get excused because it’s “ministry”. Today people want to know if the Christ we claim is in us…is really at work in us. I also appreciate the fact that you noted that excellence is not perfection by today’s standards. I learned at a conference some years back (and looked it up for myself) that the word perfect in Matthew 5:48 is the Greek root, “teleios”. The prefix telos means, “to set out for a definite point or goal”. This prefix is the same for television and telephone, objects we use to bring something closer to us that isn’t there yet. I’m not there yet but God counts my push, my press or my effort as being perfect.
